Pollock's Fish
This is a colorful art project that gives you a lot of room for creativity. This project is one of my favorites because instead of making only the fish, you can draw anything you want, and use Pollock’s technique to paint it. For the sake of keeping it all simple, I’ll stick to my example with the fish.
You’ll need to start with gathering the supplies:
-
a piece of white paper (paper that you use for the printer will work, or you can use colored construction paper, or sulphite paper because it’s thicker)
-
Brushes for the paint (of course)
-
Regular pencil for drawing the outline
-
A sharpie for making the outline bolder
-
Scissors
-
Glue (school glue or stick glue)
When you gather all you need, let’s start creating!
- Start with drawing an outline of your fish on a white paper. I highly recommend books by Ed Emberly for simple, clear, easy to follow guides for your drawings.
- When the outline is ready, it’s time to add some color. Using your brushes, splash some paint on the paper.
*Here, a word of advice, if I may. Unless you are planning on replacing the furniture and repainting the walls in the room where you are doing the splashing, go to the backyard, or use a big cardboard box and do the splashing inside of it.
**Another hint - the thicker the consistency of the paint, the easier it will splash.
- After you are satisfied with colors on your fish, let it dry, and then cut the fish out.
- Then use a sharpie to make the outline of your fish bolder.
- Take a piece of blue construction paper and glue the fish onto it.
- You can also cut out some seaweed out of green construction paper and add it to the picture, too.
Voila! Your underwater scenery is done!
