Show of hands
This beautiful art project will warm your heart every time you touch it. It’s so easy to feel a loved one close even during current isolation times!
You will need:
- salt
- all purpose flour
- water
- paint (tempera or acrylic)
- brushes for paint
- a foil tray or a big plate (optional)
- rolling pin (optional)
Start with mixing 4 cups of flour with 1 cup of table salt. Once the dry ingredients are mixed, add 1.5 cups of water and knead the dough well. Ready dough is even in appearance, doesn’t crumble, and doesn’t stick to fingers (add water or flour, if needed, to make adjustments to your dough).
Once the dough is ready, use a rolling pin to flatten it (you can make any shape you want). If you don’t have a rolling pin, you can use any glass bottle instead. Make sure your flattened dough is about ¼- ½ inch thick.
After rolling out your dough, press the palms into it making sure that the shapes of the palms are visible.
Finally, bake the dough at 250 F for about 90min - 2 hours (depending on the thickness of your dough). When all the dough is baked, you can leave it in the oven to get dry for an extra 30-60minutes, and then take it out to cool down. Here what my baked art looked like:
As a final touch, use paint to color palms in different colors and/or add a date.
